Brow Lift or Eyelid Lift: Which is Right for You?

A variety of surgical procedures are available today to reduce signs of aging on the face. Two popular options include the brow lift and the eyelid lift. Which procedure is right for you? The answer depends on your specific concerns and your desired results.

Brow Lifts

The brow lift is a surgical procedure performed on an outpatient basis to restore the forehead and eyebrows to a more youthful position. The procedure involves incisions behind the hairline, which allow access for the surgeon to remove excess tissue and skin from the upper region of the face. Brow lifts can result in a more open-eyed look, due to the raising of the eyebrows. They can also reduce the appearance of frown lines and horizontal lines across the forehead that creates a more aged appearance.

Eyelid Lifts

Also referred to as blepharoplasty, this procedure specifically addresses drooping and bagginess of the upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty removes excess tissue and fat deposits that contribute to a tired, older appearance. Blepharoplasty can be done on the upper eyelids, lower lids, or both lids at the same time. The procedure is also typically performed on an outpatient basis, with incisions where they will be nearly invisible after surgery.

Choosing Your Procedure

The best procedure will depend on an individual’s anatomy and specific concerns. As a general rule, brow lifts are recommended for patients with eyebrows that droop below the natural position of the brow bone. On the other hand, an upper eyelid lift might be a better choice for excess upper lid without any sagging of the eyebrow. In some cases, a combination of a brow lift and eyelid lift may be the only way to achieve the best possible results.
