What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is an FDA approved, human-derived hyaluronic acid filler that replaces the dermal and subcutaneous volume loss we experience from the natural aging process and other environmental factors.  The procedure provides substantial results without the need for surgery or other invasive methods, making it one of the most sought treatments on the aesthetic market.

With the short recovery time and minimal side effects, Juvederm is the perfect option for people looking to correct volume loss and the associated wrinkles and lines that form, without having to take away time from work, school, family and other obligations.

Why do we need Juvederm?

Juvederm helps replace the volume loss.  Surgical options like facelifts and brow lifts can be effective for more severe cases.  Juvederm has a strong role in the non-invasive treatment of lines, wrinkles, and volume loss without having surgery.

Resurfacing procedures can also help minimize wrinkles and pigmentation, and may produce mild tightening, but do not restore volume loss.  In many cases, dermal fillers, like Juvederm, are often the best options to restore a more youthful appearance.  Botox and Dysport can minimize lines but are not able to restore volume loss.  These treatments in conjunction with Juvederm can produce stunning results.

What are my Juvederm options?

Juvederm comes in many forms, each with patented technology, specializing in different areas of the body and face.

Juvederm Ultra XC: Lip augmentation, lip lines, chin and mental crease, nasolabial folds (laugh or smile lines)

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC: Lip augmentation, nasolabial folds (laugh or smile lines), marionette folds, chin

Vollure XC: Fine lines, nasolabial folds, lip lines, dynamic lines of the cheek

Am I a candidate for Juvederm?

Since Juvederm is a minimally invasive procedure, very few limitations are placed on whom is considered a good candidate for this treatment.  If you are looking to improve signs of aging and areas of volume loss and have healthy expectations about the procedure’s results, then you are likely going to be a good candidate for Juvederm.  Juvederm treatments are not performed on pregnant or breastfeeding women.  When you meet with your provider a health history assessment will be reviewed to ensure there are no contraindications to getting Juvederm.

How should I prepare for Juvederm?

There is no preparation process that is required for most Juvederm patients.  If you have a preexisting condition or diagnosis that needs medications or routines to be changed, your medical team at Umansky Plastic Surgery and U Laser Med Spa will give you specific instructions to follow as you arrive closer to your procedure date.

If you have any concerns or questions, make sure to bring them with you to your initial consultation.  We are happy to dedicate any amount of time to make you feel comfortable about moving forward with your decision-making process.  Our priority is to provide the safest and most effective treatments to meet your aesthetic goals.

Avoiding aspirin, Excedrin, NSAIDS (Motrin, Aleve, Advil), and fish oil, for 7-14 days before your treatment, will help minimize bruising.  Patients with a history of facial cold sores, should discuss this with their injector to determine the best strategy to avoid an outbreak.

What should I expect from a Juvederm procedure?

Juvederm is a quick and painless treatment.  Before the injections are made, your medical professional will pinpoint areas of treatment that were discussed.  Multiple methods are used to make this treatment as comfortable as possible.  The entire procedure can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes in most cases.

What should I expect during Juvederm recovery?

It is normal to experience minor redness, bruising, tenderness, mild swelling and possible a little itchiness immediately after the procedure. Most of these side effects dissipate within 48 hours, but some patients can notice small effects for a week or two.  More severe complications are extremely rare when performed by a trained medical professional like those at our office.

What kind of results can I expect from Juvederm?

Depending on the Juvederm product you receive, you can expect to have immediate and long-lasting results for up to 6 to 12 months.  This will vary depending on which filler is used, your body’s unique reaction to the filler, and the amount of correction that is being made.  We will help you get on a treatment routine appropriate for your results to ensure you continue to look your best.  It is normal to require multiple syringes in order to obtain optimum results.

Can I combine my Juvederm with other procedures?

Juvederm is nonsurgical and minimally invasive, making it the perfect choice for a combination treatment.  Laser treatments, micro-needling, peels, skin tightening, and Botox are all ideal choices for improving your overall appearance.  Juvederm restores volume loss but does not effect overall skin texture, pores, or pigmentation.  Our team can work with you to determine the best schedule for combing treatments.

How much does Juvederm cost?

The cost per treatment will vary depending on what type of Juvederm is used and how many syringes are necessary.  Upon your initial consultation, we can provide you with a detailed and accurate estimate of what your treatment will cost.
