What Is Cellulaze®?

Cellulaze is the latest laser-assisted, minimally invasive body sculpting treatment; it eliminates cellulite at its source by removing pockets of fat and loosening the tight tissue bands beneath the skin that create the unsightly appearance of cellulite.

La Jolla premier cosmetic surgeons William Umansky, MD, and Jeffrey Umansky, MD, are pleased to offer this revolutionary, FDA-approved technology to patients seeking effective cellulite treatment. Cellulaze requires minimal downtime, and most patients are able to achieve excellent results after just one treatment session.

How Does Cellulite Form?

As we age, connective tissue below the surface of the skin becomes tighter and more rigid. At the same time, pockets of fat begin to push up to the skin’s surface, creating a dimpled appearance known as cellulite. As skin begins to thin – a natural part of the aging process – those dimples can become even more prominent.

Although cellulite is a harmless and common condition, those affected by it often wish they could get rid of it. If you’re bothered by your cellulite, Cellulaze might be the right treatment for smoothing your unwanted skin dimples.

How Does Cellulaze® Treat Cellulite?

Addressing Fibrous Bands, Fat Bulges And Thin Skin

Cellulaze addresses both the connective tissue problem and the isolated pockets of fat that contribute to the appearance of cellulite. A small laser with 1440 nm wavelength and a side-firing fiber is used to release connective tissue, reducing dimpling. At the same time, pockets of fat are liquefied by the laser so the fat can be eliminated naturally by the body. Finally, Cellulaze stimulates collagen production beneath the skin’s surface, leading to thicker, healthier skin.

Minimally invasive Cellulaze treatment works because instead of only treating the surface of the skin (like many creams and topical products on the market), it treats the structural problems underneath the skin that cause cellulite.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Cellulaze®?

Cellulaze is designed to address the most common areas affected by cellulite, which includes the thighs, buttocks and hips.

What To Expect During A Cellulaze® Treatment

Cellulaze is a minimally invasive procedure performed on an outpatient basis that usually takes between 60 and 90 minutes to complete. The Cellulaze treatment can be customized to the individual patient’s unique needs and desired results.

What Type Of Anesthesia Is Used During Cellulaze®?

Patients are usually given local anesthesia and sedation to ensure their comfort throughout the procedure.

How Is Cellulaze® Performed?

A small fiber is inserted into the treatment area via tiny incisions, allowing for delivery of the laser energy directly into the cellulite. The laser breaks apart the connective fibrous tissue bands that create the dimpling of cellulite. The laser energy also liquefies fat cells so they can be harmlessly absorbed by the body, and it stimulates collagen production for firmer, thicker skin.

How Many Cellulaze® Treatments Will I Need?

Unlike some other cellulite treatments, Cellulaze offers effective results after a single treatment.

What Is Cellulaze® Recovery Like?

Compression Garment

After treatment, patients are encouraged to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and promote healthy blood flow and healing to the area.

Exercise And Activity

Regular activities and sedentary work can usually be resumed within two to three days. Strenuous exercise may be prohibited for up to two weeks.

Potential Side Effects

After your Cellulaze treatment, you may experience bruising, swelling and numbness in the treatment area. If these Cellulaze side effects develop, they tend to be mild and generally resolve within a couple of weeks. Wearing your compression garment will also help these issues resolve quickly and painlessly. Any post-treatment discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and usually lasts a few days at most.

What Results To Expect From Cellulaze®

You can expect to see firmer, smoother skin and a reduction in dimpled, lumpy skin after Cellulaze. Your skin will also be thicker and have improved elasticity.

When Will I See My Results From Cellulaze®?

In some cases, patients report seeing smoother skin in the treatment area within just a few days. More dramatic results from Cellulaze can be seen within a few weeks and will continue to improve in the months following the procedure. Most patients see their final results by eight weeks after their Cellulaze treatment.

How Long Do Cellulaze® Results Last?

This treatment offers long-term results; most patients experience a noticeable improvement in their cellulite for at least one year, and many see results for up to three years. In addition to a smoother appearance, Cellulaze improves skin quality for more dramatic, long-lasting results.

Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle and avoiding sun exposure and smoking can prolong your Cellulaze results. Conversely, the longevity of your results can be negatively affected by weight gain and pregnancy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CELLULAZE®

How Much Does Cellulaze Cost In San Diego/la Jolla?

The cost of your Cellulaze treatment will depend on the extent and severity of your cellulite and whether any other procedures are being combined with it. At your personalized consultation, we can provide you with exact Cellulaze pricing and the cost of your customized treatment.

Am I A Good Candidate For Cellulaze®?

Ideal Cellulaze candidates are in good overall health and at a healthy weight. Overweight patients may qualify, but it is best to be near your goal weight to achieve the best Cellulaze results and reduce any risks. Patients should have cellulite on their buttocks, hips or thighs that they’d like to improve.

Is Cellulaze® Painful?

The local anesthesia used for this procedure numbs the treatment area, making the process painless. You may experience a pinching sensation at some points during your treatment, but patients generally report little to no pain with Cellulaze.

Does Cellulaze® Tighten Skin?

While it cannot address significantly sagging skin, Cellulaze does provide some tightening to improve the tone and texture of the skin. Cellulaze treatments stimulate the skin to naturally produce more collagen, which results in tighter and firmer skin.

If you’re interested in further skin tightening, you might benefit from non-surgical Pellevé skin tightening or a surgical skin removal procedure like a tummy tuck or gynecomastia surgery.

Does Cellulaze® Remove Fat?

The laser energy used in Cellulaze treatments melts the bulges of fat that contribute to cellulite, allowing the fat to be naturally eliminated from the body through its lymphatic system. However, it does not remove as much fat as procedures designed specifically for fat removal like liposuction, Smartlipo, CoolSculpting or SculpSure.

Will I Have Scars After Cellulaze®?

Cellulaze does not leave visible scars. The incisions used for this procedure are so tiny that any resulting scars are typically very small and unnoticeable, and they will continue to improve over time.

Can I Undergo Cellulaze® Maintenance Treatments?

One to three years after your initial Cellulaze treatment, you may notice your cellulite redevelops or becomes more noticeable. In this case, you can choose to undergo another Cellulaze treatment to improve your cellulite once again.

What Is The Difference Between Cellulaze® And Cellfina®?

Cellulaze and Cellfina are both cellulite treatments, but they work in different ways to address bothersome skin dimpling. Cellulaze uses laser energy administered just beneath the skin to disrupt the fibrous bands, fat bulges and skin thinning that contribute to cellulite. On the other hand, Cellfina involves a needle inserted under the skin that releases the fibrous connective tissue bands only.

Cellfina can better address deep cellulite dimples, while Cellulaze is ideal for large treatment areas and skin laxity that affects cellulite. Both treatments offer long-lasting results after a single treatment.

Is Cellulaze® Safe?

Cellulaze has a proven record of safety and is FDA approved for the treatment of cellulite. It has a built-in system that monitors your skin temperature to avoid tissue damage for optimal safety. The Cellulaze device is made by Cynosure, a leading and well-established manufacturer of safe and effective medical devices. Complications and severe side effects from this treatment are extremely rare.

Can I Combine Cellulaze® With Other Non-surgical Treatments?

Yes, you can undergo Cellulaze and certain other non-surgical or surgical cosmetic treatments at the same time. Common combinations with Cellulaze include liposuction, laser stretch mark treatments and Pellevé skin tightening. The nature of your other procedure and the treatment area will determine whether it will be a good combination procedure with Cellulaze.
